FAQs

Does my company really need a telephone system?

In many cases, the answer is no. If you only have a single phone line but need multilpe extensions, a multi-hanset DECT system might be all you need. DECT (Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telephone) have many of the key features that you might think only a telephone system (PBX) would have.  Each handset can call any of the others (an internal call), they can also transfer outgoning and incomming calls between handsets. Some will even give you a conference call feature so that two or more people can take part in a conversation with an outside party.

The savings by taking the DECT option over a telephone system can be significant. They could be a tenth of the price. They come in single, double, tripple and quad sets and additional handsets can be purchased later.

How long will it take for my new phone system to be up and running?

If you are having a new phone system in your existing office then the installation process by Optimus Communications can be completed in a matter of days.

How long will I be without a working phoning in my office?

The switch-over from your old system to a working new system can be achieved in a matter of hours providing all goes smoothly. The ‘downtime’ can be minimised by switching your exchange lines and switchboard (or the phone used to answer the majority of calls) over to the new system first. The remainder of the extensions are then switched over. The time for this can vary depending on the buildings wiring.

In the case of a new installation (not replacing an existing system), we would perform the majority of the installation prior to the network services provider installing your lines. This minimises the time between you lines and your telephone system going live.

Your new phone system will be programmed by our qualified engineers prior to the actual switch-over to minimise the distribution to your working day. The time of the switch-over will be discussed with your telecoms engineer at your phone systems planning meeting, we will do our best to meet your needs.

We are moving offices.  What’s involved in getting our telephone system up and running at the new premises?

Your existing telephone system can usually be moved to your new premises. However there will be some ‘downtime’ during the move.  You can arrange with your service provider to have a ‘divert’ put on your phone lines to a mobile for example, during the move.  In most cases, this can be completed in a working day. If however your phone system requirements change as your premises do, you may need to invest in a new one. You will still need your phone numbers transferred by your provider too you new premises, please bear in mind this could take several weeks and can often dictate the date of your move. Optimus Communications will work alongside BT or other network carriers to ensure that you get your ISDN, analogue or broadband lines where and when you require them.

How will I decide on where my phone sockets should be positioned or how many I should have?
